Lionel Messi, the Argentine football superstar, has been spotted house-hunting in Miami with his family following his move to the city to play for Inter Miami. The 36-year-old made the surprising decision to leave Europe for the first time in his club career and join Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. Messi’s move to Miami came as a shock to many, as he had received interest from his former club Barcelona and a lucrative offer to play in the Saudi Pro League alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite these options, Messi chose to move to Miami, a city where he already owned properties. After an intense season in France, he flew to Fort Lauderdale with his family earlier this month to sign a two-and-a-half-year deal with Inter Miami.
During their house-hunting trip, Messi, his wife Antonella Roccuzzo, and their three children were seen viewing a sprawling mansion located near the Intracoastal Waterway in the Boca Raton district. This exclusive neighborhood has been home to numerous sports and entertainment celebrities, including NBA stars from the Miami Heat. Messi already owns several properties in different parts of the city but seems to be looking for a new home in the luxurious area of Boca Raton.
The move to Miami represents a significant change for Messi and his family after spending many years in the spotlight during his time with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. He has expressed a desire for his family to experience a more laid-back life away from the constant scrutiny and pressure of European football.
In an interview, Messi explained his decision to move to the US, saying, “After winning the World Cup and not being able to go to Barca, it’s time to go to MLS to live football in a different way and enjoy my day-to-day life more. Obviously with the same responsibility and desire to win, and to do things well, but with more calm.”
The Messi family has already owned an apartment in Miami for four years and purchased a plush pad in the Porsche Design Tower in 2019. The condo, worth $9 million, offers breathtaking views of Miami Beach, a vehicle lift, a private cinema, a golf simulator, a private restaurant, and an outdoor lounge with a sea view.
Messi’s contract with Inter Miami is incredibly lucrative, earning him $150 million over the course of his deal, along with favorable commercial deals with companies like Adidas and Apple. With his substantial earnings and his passion for real estate, Messi seems to be looking to expand his property portfolio in Miami as he settles into life in the United States.
